Heidi Erdmann is moving her gallery to a double story Victorian building on Kloof Street in Gardens. It is a move against the trend in Cape Town of large and museum-like gallery spaces. Not following convention, even the standard idea of a project space was taken a step further. Along with partner Carsten Rasch the two conceived the idea of The Blah Blah Bar as a permanent feature in the project space area.
The Blah Blah Bar where talk is cheap and the music is good is launched as a regular neighbourhood bar. Its operating hours areWednesday to Saturday 4pm to 2am. Rasch’s program for the bar includes light and sound installation, performance, lots of live music and a soap box; this will run along side a program of exhibitions by emerging talents.
The idea of a neighbourhood bar as a fine art project appealed to Erdmann and Rasch because it is organic, unpredictable, open-ended and exciting.
