The Department of Arts and Culture is to present reasons to the Davies Tax Commission why it wants to see patrons of the arts receive tax relief for their donations.
This emerged during Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa’s press briefing on Thursday, ahead of his budget vote speech.

Mr Mthethwa said: “We believe that people who contribute (through voluntary donations) to the arts should be shown some leniency (in terms of making their donations tax deductible).”
Department of Arts and Culture director-general Sibusiso Xaba said: “We will be making representations to the Davies Tax Commission as to why this should be done. We don’t believe that it should only be government that funds arts and cultural activities.”…
