As one of Hermanus’ oldest galleries, Abalone Art Gallery (established in 2004) has been a supporter of the Hermanus FynArts Festival from the start in 2013. With past solo shows of Judith Mason, Patrick Mautloa and Nel Erasmus, Abalone Art Gallery has contributed to the attractive mix of high quality visual and performing arts that continues to draw an art-appreciating public to the FynArts Festival.
In 2017, Abalone Art Gallery is presenting a solo exhibition by Louis van Heerden, entitled ‘Atmosferas‘. The exhibition is inspired by a composition dedicated to the artist as a tribute to Louis’ outstanding role as a promotor of performing arts in the Overberg region. Intensely emotive, the works capture and convey a spiritual sense of nature, going beyond the merely descriptive.
In addition, the gallery is showing a group exhibition of artworks in the main gallery and sculpture garden entitled ‘For Art’s Sake‘ by artists of the gallery, including Titia Ballot, Christoff Barnard, Alta Botha, Lien Botha, Mariki Chin, Richard John Forbes, Kristin Hua Yang, Elzaby Laubscher, Nomthumzi Mashabala, Patrick Mautloa, André Naudé, Shepherd Ndudzo, Lynette ten Krooden, Sanna Swart, Strijdom van der Merwe and Jeannette Unite.
Abalone Art Gallery is also delighted to host an exhibition of works by the 2017 FynArts Legacy Award winner David Goldblatt in the Annex Gallery.
