Sam Nhlengethwa 9 January 1955

Sam Nhlengethwa combined found images with drawing and print-making, including imagery of township life and jazz musicians. Born in Payneville, Springs; he studied at the Rorke’s Drift Art Centre and taught at the Federative Union of Black Artists (FUBA). In the year that South Africa held its first democratic elections, he was awarded the Standard Bank Young Artist Award. He supports Orlando Pirates.
