This Solo exhibition will be on show for First Thursday, November 6th. We'll be open until 7pm.

Bridget Heneck, a Cape Town, South Africa-based contemporary artist, applies her multi-disciplinary background and talents to inject unique and innovative elements into her broad range of work.

Color definition:

Cerulean blue - Use this magnificent color to mix with other colours especially to make an exciting green.  Also use it as a counter colour to make other colours sing. In watercolor for sky.

Opera Rose - a new colour produced by Michael Harding. A shocking pink. A colour that always makes me feel happy and inspired.

Paynes grey. - a color that goes with everything.  I use it a lot in the shadows as it has a cold hue.  It also helps to create distance when working with it in the background when painting en pleinair.

Artworks:

By Bridget Heneck
"I believe art has a unique ability to create emotional connections that facts alone cannot achieve.
Since I have been using Gamblin cold wax mixed with oil paint I am constantly surprised at how the painting evolves.  The colours and the images take on a life of their own.
I feel a sense of merging with the work loosing conscious control and becoming a conduit for the art.
My purpose is to inspire others to become more intensely aware of the natral world around them.
Through my work I hope to open people’s eyes and sweep them up in the beauty and fragility of our endangered species while bringing a sense of peace into their lives.
This dual purpose gives my practice both meaning and impact."

ONLINE AUCTION

Celebrating Silver
including The Mary Eleanor Hibbert Collection II

10 - 29 October 2025

Cape Town: Following the resounding success of The Mary Eleanor Hibbert Collect Part I Cape Silver Auction, Strauss & Co is delighted to present The Mary Eleanor Hibbert Collect Part II, alongside our annual Celebrating Silver auction.

This two-part online auction offers a journey through the world of silver, featuring an exceptional selection of English and Continental silver. From bespoke tableware and serving pieces to striking decorative objects, the auction celebrates the artistry, craftsmanship, and history that define silver across the centuries.

The Mary Eleanor Hibbert Collection Part II represents the continuation of a lifetime’s passion for collecting. Assembled over more than three decades, it showcases refined Continental silver, and English silver from the Georgian period through to the 20th century, each piece chosen for its quality, character, and design.

Celebrating Silver brings together a dynamic selection of English, German, and international silver, ranging from classic forms to rare and unexpected treasures, including a Dutch VOC ingot recovered from the Bredenhof wreck, offered from the collection of one of the original salvors.

“Across both sessions, collectors will find pieces that embody the enduring beauty, heritage, and craftsmanship of silver in all its forms."

–  Shirley Daniels-Poyiya, Strauss & Co Silver Specialist

FIND YOUR HAPPILY EVER AFTER IN NOVEMBER

Ceramic connoisseurs are in for a treat during the upcoming Ceramics Month celebrations, as our exhibitions in both the gallery and museum will showcase this wonderfully versatile medium.

In 'Once Upon a Time', clay acts as narrator. Participating creatives have shaped their ceramic 'stories' inspired by South African folklore, universal myths and legends, fairy tales, family lineages and personal narratives. In the gallery, we will be featuring an exciting group of artists, some veterans and others new to the world of clay.

These artists include: Alessandro Pappada, Alexis Nkhuthazo Dyalvane, Ali Nabavi, Amber Skye Alcock, Charmaine Haines, Deirdre Botha, Ella Cronjé, Gabriele Jacobs, Gabrielle Alberts, Helen Doherty, Jacques Mollentze, Kevin Collins, Martin Haines, Miro van der Vloed, Nada Spencer, Narique Sangster, Patsy Groll, Pieter Heyneke, Rosemary Lapping-Sellars, Sibusiso Mthembu, Siyanda Sipolo and Zanoxolo Sylvester Mqeku.

In the CUBE, a group of alumni from the Michaelis School of Fine Art have come together to present what promises to be another superb showing of clay narratives. These artists include: Amanda Rybicka, Gabrielle Alberts, Geena Wilkinson and Philip Barrett.

Be sure to join us on the opening day - Saturday, 8 November '25 at 11h00 - to find your own happily ever after.
'Devil's Peak' by Gabrielle Alberts. Part of the Once Upon a Time installation to be exhibited in the CUBE and Clay Museum.
