Riaan Bolt Antiques is excited to return to Upstairs @ Bamboo with an exhibition of South African Antiques, Art and Ceramics from the 5th until the 13th March 2022.

The Cape furniture selection will focus on rare 18th century patrician furniture.  Highlights include a fine stinkwood & amboyna armoire with silver mounts, c. 1780; an important neo-classical stinkwood, amboyna & ebony commode, c. 1790; and two rare 18th century stinkwood tables with tops made from Robben Island slate.  Such museum quality pieces seldomly appear on the market and the exhibition offers a unique opportunity to view and acquire them.

An important group of profusely inlaid chairs, made by Jochemus Johannes Prinsloo (1855 – 1926), will headline the Transvaal furniture selection.  These chairs won the 1st prize at the Pretoria show in 1912 and were subsequently exhibited at Die Krugergenootskap, Pretoria, 1950, and the Van Riebeeck Festival, Pretoria, 1952.

South African abstract art and sculpture will compliment the antique furniture.  Works by mid-century masters such as Edoardo Villa, Ezrom Legae, Georgina Ormiston and Christo Coetzee will be on offer.

Linnware and South African Anglo-Oriental ceramics by potters such as Esias Bosch, Tim Morris and Andrew Walford will round off the curated exhibition.

Kindly note that all Covid 19 protocols will be observed.  We look forward to seeing you in this light and airy gallery space.
