The Cape Guild of Weavers is the oldest guild in South Africa – a dynamic 72 years young who promote weaving, spinning, knitting, crocheting, and lace-making.
On display is a tapestry by our guest artist Susqya Williams, acknowledged as the most accomplished and creative professional textile artist in South Africa.
Decorative wall furnishings include tapestries and wall hangings from monochrome, subtle weavings using different techniques to add texture and interesting detail, to bright, vibrant hangings where traditional weaving patterns are enlarged to give them a modern look and show the threads off to their best shimmering advantage. Also included in the exhibition are contemporary kilims, woven in wool expertly dyed, designed, and skillfully handwoven by the weaver. Various niche yarn companies and artisanal dyers will be selling their products at the venue.
Venue: Richard Crowie Hall, Kirstenbosch Gardens
Dates: 23 April to 4 May 2022
Times: 9H00 to 18H00
Entry to the exhibition is covered by Kirstenbosch entry fee and most items on show are for sale.
