August in Cape Town has now become synonymous with Art Month at Welgemeend: a month of art, lectures and events to raise funds for the preservation and conservation of Welgemeend and the Boerneef Art Collection.

This year’s theme, Shifting Boundaries: A Selection of Works showcasing South African Women Artists of the Past 100 Years promises to be a feast for the eye and food for the soul as we celebrate women artists throughout the years.

Don’t miss this opportunity to see a selection of art from the collection of Frank and Lizelle Kilbourn which will be exhibited and to participate in lectures and walkabouts which are part of the program.

Welgemeend, a historic Cape Dutch house, is situated in the Citybowl. It is here that the art collectionand books of the South African poet and linguist known as Boerneef (late Prof IW van der Merwe) are housed. The custodian of Welgemeeend, Hoërskool Jan van Riebeeck, manages the homestead and the collection in collaboration with the volunteer organisation Friends of Welgemeend. Together they are committed to the preservation of this significant cultural heritage for future generations.
