Aspire Art presents Contemporary Art – a Timed-Online Auction.

Collectors are spoilt for choice with an exciting selection of Contemporary works on offer at Aspire Art this August. Currently open for bidding until 29 August 2023, this cross-category sale offers a wide range of options from paintings and drawings to prints and  photography for easy collecting.

Look out for exceptional works by bright young talents like Banele Khoza and Michaela Younge. Khoza’s ghostly figures in his signature palette of mostly pink and blue are well-loved by contemporary art collectors. In September 2017, Khoza won the Gerard Sekoto Award at the ABSA Art Gallery and in 2018 he headlined a solo exhibition titled, LGBTQI+: Banele Khoza as part of the Curatorial Lab at Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town. Award-winning Younge creates rich tactile works in merino wool on felt. In 2022 she presented a solo booth as part of the curated Tomorrows/Today section at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair, receiving the section’s most promising Artist Award.

Also on offer are exceptional works by well-established South African favourites including Wayne Barker, Conrad Botes, Brett Murray, Sam Nhlengethwa, Johannes Phokela, Claudette Schreuders, Penny Siopis and Diane Victor.

William Kentridge collectors can look forward to an outstanding selection. Of particular interest is lot 15, Pocket drawing and Return book, including an intimate pocket-sized ink drawing on found pages and a flipbook using video stills from The Refusal of Time (2012) by William Kentridge and Dada Masilo.  Also included is a linocut, Rumours from 2010, and a variety of prints showcasing well-loved, Kentridge motifs; a nose, a cat, and a coffee pot.

Great examples of Contemporary African Photography also feature; included is a striking portrait, Regina Kambule, South Africa from Pieter Hugo’s Looking Aside series and works by Gerald Machona and Sethembile Msezane.  Editioned works are highlighted with pieces by Zander Blom, Gordon Froud and Nandipha Mntambo and other favourites include Alexandra Karakashian, Matthew Hindley and Nelson Makamo.
