English Heritage, the charity, has planned to create a blue plaque for explorer, diplomat, and writer Gertrude Bell, at the Knightsbridge house, where she has stayed in numerous occasions. This decision has sparked a stiff opposition from Graham Best, the biographer of Bell, reports the Guardian.
According to the Guardian, the charity says that the decision was to bring up the names of remarkable women to the forefront, so that history recognizes them. At present only 14 percent of London plaques are dedicated to women. …Read More
