With its East African focus, the FNB JoburgArtFair has finally been given a makeover in 2016. Since the inception of the annual fair in 2008 it has not lived up to the attempts of the organiser, Artlogic, to position it as an African event.
Its director, Ross Douglas, recognised from the outset that a parochial South African platform would never attract international visitors. Over the years only a handful of galleries from outside SA have occupied stands, often Paris-or London-based art dealers specialising in African art.
