Focused on identity and interested in fashion, Odirile Khune Motsiri (b.1994) constructs his pieces from denim fabric, forming expressive relief-styled self-portraits, each with their own attitude. “The idea of repurposing denim comes from an early childhood memory of seeing how my grandmother, an industrial worker at an upholstery company, used to collect fabric scraps to make us bags and hats at home”. Odirile holds a National Diploma in Textile Design and Technology and an Advanced Diploma in Fine and Applied Arts from Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria. He was a participant in the 10and5 Artist Acceleration programme and has also exhibited at Bkhz gallery, Johannesburg.
