We are pleased to announce the Tomorrows/Today Prize, supported by Investec Cape Town Art Fair’s cultural partner, Fondazione Fiera Milano. The winner of the prize will be selected from the ten solo presentations in the Tomorrows/Today section of ICTAF2018, curated by Tumelo Mosaka. Selected by a jury which includes Nomusa Makhuba, Art History Senior Lecturer, Michaelis School of Fine Art (South Africa), and Valerie Cassel, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Virginia Museum of Fine Art (United States), the winner will be announced on Friday, 16 February, 13h30 at the Talks Auditorium inside the Fair. The prize will be awarded on the basis of the section’s mission to showcase artists who express poignant, unique visions of the present and the future. Mr. Giovanni Gorno Tempini, President of Fondazione Fiera Milano since 2016 and an esteemed art collector, will award the prize to the selected artist.
As part of its institutional aims, Fondazione Fiera Milano pursues cultural and economic growth through activities that engage with the promotion of art and knowledge. Fondazione Fiera Milano places particular focus on contemporary expressions of design and art. The exhibitions supported by Fondazione Fiera Milano, which have become of primary importance in the architectural world, exemplify this pursuit. With this focus in mind, Fondazione Fiera Milano established an annual art fund in 2012, with the aim of acquiring works of art to enrich its artistic heritage. These acquisitions are conserved in the Fondazione’s premises, in the historic Palazzina degli Orafi, in Largo Domodossola. The selection of acquired works is made by a jury with an international profile, coordinated by the President of Fondazione Fiera Milano. The selection favours young artists whose practices are characterized by an experimental visual language. The Fondazione collection is visible here.
Fondazione Fiera Milano’s art fund has operated in the context of miart – the annual international fair of modern and contemporary art. In 2018, miart will hold its 23rd edition, organised by Fiera Milano and taking place from April 13 to 15 in the Fieramilanocity pavilions in Milan. Under the artistic directorship of Alessandro Rabottini, 186 international galleries from 20 countries will exhibit works by modern masters, established contemporary artists, emerging talents, and experimental designers divided into seven different sections. Thanks to a close collaboration with the City of Milan, miart gives life to an Art Week that engages the entire city through a varied calendar of events.
Fondazione Fiera Milano also faces the foreign market thanks to Investec Cape Town Art Fair. This is an initiative that supports the contents of the 2018/20 strategy, giving the Fondazione the role of long-term investor with targeted interventions in selected sectors, including art and culture, internationally.
Fondazione Fiera Milano holds ownership of all Fiera Milano SpA exhibition and congress assets: the exhibition area of Fiera Milano, the hotel and management facilities in Rho-Pero, and the MiCo-Milano Congressi, a new congress facility which is the largest Europe, built in the pavilions of the historic fair district in Milan. Entrepreneurial functions aimed at the organisation of fair and congress activities are carried out through Fiera Milano SpA, established by Fondazione Fiera Milano, which holds control through an absolute majority. www.investeccapetownartfair.co.za
