The Sasol New Signatures Art Competition exhibition, featuring the works of the 2024 winners and finalists, is in its last few weeks at the Pretoria Art Museum and will close on Sunday 3 November 2024. The exhibition showcases 137 works in a multitude of mediums including sculpture, installation and video and should not be missed!
A highlight is the solo exhibition by Nosiviwe Matikinca, winner of Sasol New Signatures 2023, titled Ukungalingani Kwezemfundo (Educational Inequality). Matikinca has explored the use of different mediums, such as printmaking and castings in different materials, in addition to her use of her ceramic shoes. Her exhibition portrays the overcrowding of classes and the lack of resources such as school tables, leaving learners to share with others or use broken tables. The carvings on these tables commemorate the presence of learners who were distracted due to the overcrowding and noise from their classmates.
A virtual 3D gallery of the full exhibition can be experienced on the website: www.sasolsignatures.co.za
