From commanding operatic soloists and captivating one-person plays to two innovative virtuoso musicians, each performing on very different instruments, these artists showcase the magic of storytelling through a single voice. Opening Concert
Date: Fri 6 June

Magdalene Minnaar, Artistic Director at Cape Town Opera, has performed over 30 operatic roles and regularly appears as a soloist in concerts and oratorios. She has created innovative musical and theatrical works, founding Biblioteek Productions and commissioning numerous new South African compositions, including operas.

Timothy Moloi, known for his velvety voice and remarkable vocal range, has performed at prestigious events such as the Africa Peace Awards and the FIFA 2010 World Cup bid banquet. He is also a dedicated ambassador for 67Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day.

Sima Mashazi is a dynamic singer-songwriter with a rich musical background and vibrant stage presence. Her accolades include Best Solo Artist (US Woordfees 2018) and the Kanna Award for Best Music Production (2022).
 
Strauss Bicentenary Concert

Brittany Smith, celebrated South African soprano and Cape Town Opera soloist, is acclaimed for her powerful voice and versatility. Her repertoire includes both opera and musical theatre. Starring, amongst others, as Sharon in Master Class opposite Sandra Prinsloo, and Maria in The Sound of Music,  Brittany captivates  audiences with her  dynamic stage presence.

Recital - Classical Accordion

Loren Ehlers, a BMus student, musician and composer at the University of Cape Town is re-defining the accordion’s role in classical music. Loren’s repertoire will highlight the accordion as a versatile classical instrument and  will showcase the depth, variety, and brilliance of the classical accordion.

One Person One Note

Pedro Espi-Sanchis, aka The Musicman, brings African instrumental music and traditional knowledge to life, inspiring children and families through rhythm, melody and hands-on participation. Pedro will not only take families on a musical performance, but will also be a soloist in the unmissable jazz concert, We Hear Music, on Sat 13 at 18:30.

Blonde Poison

Fiona Ramsay, one of South Africa’s leading actresses, has worked both internationally and locally. Her award-winning professional career has successfully spanned more than 40 years in theatre, film and television. Of her performance in Blonde Poison theatre critics have hailed 'her tour de force performance’ and a ‘genius solo performance’.

Marianne Thamm is a veteran investigative journalist. Currently an associate editor and journalist with Daily Maverick, She is the author of several books including a memoir, Hitler, Verwoerd, Mandela and Me, released in 2016. Marianne is also a wit and stand-up comedian who will celebrate South Africa’s resilience, taking a unique look at our strengths, weaknesses and madnesses.
