Maureen Quin wins Medal of Honour for Visual Art

Press Release | Maureen Quin:

The South African Academy of Science and Culture’s Council has decided on the following awards for 2016:

9.2 Medal of Honour for Visual Art

The Medal of Honour for Visual Art (sculpture) was awarded to me, Maureen Quin.

This well-known South African artist has been enjoyed since the eighties, locally and internationally because of her excellent sculptures and public assignments. Maureen Quin is considered as being one of South Africa’s most gifted senior sculptors. Her sharp sentience and classical training has played an important role in her sculptures. Her work is influenced by two important factors – nature and the human body. Although isolated form the mainstream art centres in the country, her sculptures continue to be relevant and topical and shows a continuous in-depth investigation into the form and spirit of man in Africa.
