Another year has passed and we are proud to say that 2018 has been a good year. We have managed to achieve several auction records on well-known artists and have managed to expand our operations and expertise with stand-alone focused special category auctions and a new platform for our growing collector base.

During 2018 we achieved the current world record price for a work by Esias Bosch with the sale of a large vitrified panel by the artist for R 1 393 200 on our March Johannesburg auction. This was followed by the world record price achieved on our Cape Town October auction for an oil on canvas by the Dutch artist Jan Catharinus Adriaan Goedhart, The Turquoise Bowl, selling for R 452 790.

In 2018 we expanded our expertise into category specific auctions which allows a refined and focused presentation on specialised categories for the discerning collector, including works by the Old Masters; Meteorites, Minerals and Gemstones; Collectable Cars; and Stamps. Combining these developments with the launch of our new online platform – Welz Online – has allowed our clients and collectors easy access to news, events, results and a greater connectivity to Stephan Welz and Co. Welz Online allows collectors to view and bid on both our live and online auction, obtain auction evaluations and stay up to date with the latest happenings anytime and anywhere.

We are looking forward to 2019 with tremendous anticipation with our first premium live auction of the year being held in Cape Town in early February, and followed by a host of live and online auctions in both Johannesburg and Cape Town. Stephan Welz and Co. is looking forward to seeing you online and in the saleroom for many more milestones and successes.
