We report with deep  sadness that Stephan Welz passed away on 25 December after a brief illness.

The South Africa Art world has lost a great giant of a man who’s belief in and professionalism of South African Art promotion was unparalleled, who’s tireless dedication to SA art education and appreciation is legendary.

Stephan knew many if not most contemporary SA artists first hand, their colourful lives and values continued because of Stephan’s fond stories and investment of these spirits that he loved and cherished.

We have lost a Great South African Art spirit (as well as a vast Library of information) in the same caliber as Stern, Battiss, Preller, Sekoto.

Stephan Welz is the toast of what good South African Art had to offer itself and the World.

Rest in Peace Stephan and thank you for the great gift of your rich life and love of art and love for all of us, South Africans.
