Githan Coopoo: Tears Now But Heaven Tomorrow

Visit Tears Now But Heaven Tomorrow, an exhibition honouring the legacy of South African artist Githan Coopoo (1994–2025), whose singular voice redefined the possibilities of clay in contemporary art. A self-taught sculptor, Coopoo transformed clay into a medium of adornment, critique, and storytelling. His work—tender, humorous, and defiant—blurs the line between craft and fine art, revealing the strength in vulnerability and the beauty in fragility.

Join us for an inspiring walkabout of Tears Now But Heaven Tomorrow on Sunday, 2 November at 11 am. Led by Lena Sulik from Everard Read and Ruth Ramsden-Karelse, Githan Coopoo’s cousin, this walkabout offers a rare opportunity to delve deeper into the stories, symbolism, and creative process behind Coopoo’s work.

Day passes and memberships are available on Webtickets or at the Norval Foundation front desk.
Members join for free – please RSVP to info@norvalfoundation.org.

We look forward to welcoming you.
