The Lockdown Collection

21 Days. 21 Artists. 21 Impacts

The story of the South African lockdown, told through visual artists of the country.

The Lockdown Collection is a new charitable initiative aimed to raise much needed funds for South Africans –  artists and the broader community –  to assist in the fight against the economic impact of COVID-19.

Artworks donated by invited artists to this fundraiser record this extraordinary, unprecedented time in South Africa’s history, as the country endures 21 days in lockdown.

A collection of 21 artworks will be revealed – one, new artwork daily –throughout the lockdown period. Works by Sam Nhlengethwa, Walter Oltmann, Diane Victor and Colbert Mashile have already been announced. The online auction is currently open for bidding at www.aspireart.net  The project will culminate in a live streamed auction on Thursday 16th April.

All proceeds generated from the campaign will go to a newly created Vulnerable Visual Artist Fund (60%), which will be open for grants imminently, the President’s Solidarity Fund (25%) as well as participating artists (15%).

Support the initiative by purchasing a work of art, or simply donating to the Fund.
