It wasn’t a major surprise for artist Jasmine Brown when her art installations called “Black Teen Wearing a Hoodie” were partially or completely removed from various neighborhoods throughout Seattle, but it was still disheartening. The art installations depict Brown’s 14-year-old son, Jaymin, doing ordinary things, such as reading, while wearing sneakers, a pair of jeans, and a black hoodie.

Examples of vandalism to the installations include the removal of the teen’s Afro, beheading and removing limbs, and complete destruction.

Jaymin told Teen Vogue he wasn’t surprised by what happened, either: “I kind of already knew it was probably going to get vandalized. It didn’t really hurt me. That’s just people in general.” Read more
