Taking place over the month end weekend, the Tulbagh Arts Festival offers a refreshing alternative to the official opening of large Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town the week before.
The 28 lovingly restored heritage houses along Church Street provide a perfect setting for the many local and visiting artists to stage their “Pop Up” exhibitions.
Many members of the Tulbagh Art Route will be presenting “PopUp” exhibitions and events in their own home studios around Tulbagh allowing visitors to mingle with local and visiting art lovers and enjoy the beautiful country atmosphere. The wonderful wine farms of the Tulbagh Wine Route will also be offering unique wine tasting and art experiences.
Only two of the original Tulbagh Art Group are still around and renown stalwart Rochelle Beresford has promised an exciting offer at her “Pop Up” exhibition. There is also an exhibition “The Bride” at the Christo Coetzee museum in Church Street to commemorate to life of Christo, a leader of the renown Tulbagh Art Group.
To cap off a true country art experience the Tulbagh Country Market will be held on Saturday 30 September and the Tulbagh Show will be in full swing.
Right now is the best time to visit the Boland. Even with the harsh drought all the fields are luscious green and the yellow canola fields are magnificent.
